Buskerfest ’26

Teatru Rjal was, for many decades, Malta’s elite cultural venue with the theatre’s podium providing the grandiose entrance that one would expect of the country’s leading opera house. However, unbeknownst to many, the podium also served as a bridge between the elitist ‘indoor’ and the populist ‘outside’ worlds when Maltese composer and conductor Paul Nani, together with a handful of musicians and singers, used to entertain passersby with free, operatic concerts on the theatre’s podium.

Today, true to its mission, Pjazza Teatru Rjal continues to make high-quality culture accessible to the widest possible audience. For this reason, and in line with its historic past, Pjazza Teatru Rjal will be opening up its podium again to talented buskers who would like to share their art during the second edition of BUSKERFEST.

Following on from the success of  previous editions, Pjazza Teatru Rjal is calling all buskers and artistes of any genre to send in their proposals for possible participation in BUSKERFEST ’26, which will be held on 22 and 23 May 2026 on the theatre’s podium. If you think that you have what it takes, click here to apply by not later than 27th February 2026. Short-listed candidates will be asked to sit for an audition and selected artistes will be required to perform an act of approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
